Content marketing is a catch-all term for copy, images, infographics, social posts, blog posts and videos. Where do you start with continent marketing, how do you produce creative content marketing?

 

“ChatGPT!” You Shout

Yes. You can go down this route. It’s lazy and it’s derivative of others work. The content produced is bland. The content is taken from others’ work (would you protect your IP)? There is nothing of YOU in the piece. The emotion, the use of subtext to prompt a reaction (a sale, a signup to a newsletter) is missing. Real writers, you know, like this one, spend a lot of time working on the style, the message and the entertainment value. O’ and there’s this to take into account:

That’s a worry, isn’t it? Imagine, Artificial Intelligence, ho-hum, giving you incorrect information, data or citations and publishing that to your audience.

O’, if I can’t use AI, what can I use? AI stands for Artificial Ignorance. Yes, it does. I’ve just written that phrase so it must be true, I’m a human. Use your own mind. Become more creative. Do some thinking. Chat to people. Read about creativity tools.

 

“Why should I do that Jim?”

 

Well, do you want to be like everyone else? Do you want to be one of those on Linkedin posting in the comments ‘What a great day at X, thank you Y.’ Nope? You’re not like that. You understand that anything worthwhile is worth working for. You’re not ignorant. You know your business; you know your market and you understand your customer.

Content Type Pointers

Experimentation is the key to success in content marketing. Which form to try? All of them, then measure the engagement. Engagement means more word-of-mouth, means sharing, means taking on your business and promoting it because you have creative content.

Always measure engagement, reach/reactions and not list a vanity metric like the number of followers. O’, you have 10,000 followers on TikTok. How many of them are doing anything?

 

A mix is the best approach, video will give a bit more reach and hit new audiences. For imagery, work on the title and thumbnails. For audio, podcasts etc, keep it quick and focused. O’ and what connects these elements? What makes great content?

 

There’s no magic bullet. Creative thought belongs to us humans and we know in our guts, our intuition what is working (because we experiment and we track).

 

There’s a lot more to finding the content marketing that works. Too much to go into one article but I’m going to leave you with a creative tool that works.

The Quota for Creativity

Simple. Give yourself a quota to achieve when you start to generate ideas. I don’t mean come up with 4 – 5 ideas. Come up with 50 or 100 ideas. Yes. It’s graft but it is worthwhile.
