I’ve been reviewing, improving, specifying and improving conversions on websites for so long I have a dial-up modem screeching in my ears.
How quickly does the Website appear?
Most websites will appear in your browser pretty quick. Ideally you’ll be able to interact within two seconds. First User Interaction (FUI) in the jargon of the techie-geek.
You can install an extension in your browser to get the exact time. I use BitDefender, pretty broad but gives a good idea.
Domain Authority
In the old, old days, a time before AI when we used RI (Real Intelligence) there was a scale of a website’s worth called Page Rank. Nope it was named after Larry Page one of the founders of Google. Page Rank worked on a scale of 1 to 10. I used to get quite excited by getting a website to 0 (zero) as it meant Google knew there was a website.
Currently I use Ubbersuggest. Not because it’s any good for what it claims to be. I use it because it’s free (and I take my Scottish blood seriously). If you have money to throw at it then subscribe to MOZ, great product which does much.
Domain Authority works on a scale of 1 to 100. The BBC is a 95. Decent ecommerce websites will be around 40 (aiming for 50), a small business that is not doing sales on the website will be in the 20s.

How many Pages?
You can use the command site: (that is colon) typed into Google followed by the whole URL ie site:https://lucybee.com/
On a desktop machine scroll to the bottom does Google have pages 1 to 10 followed by > Next? Then you have a website with a lot of content. Hurrah! You can click on next and more pages will appear. This will give you an idea of how much work has gone into the website.
Ideally you’ll have access to Google Search Console which will return the amount of pages has in the index.
Site Age
You can use Domain Tools here which will tell you how long the domain has been around.
You could have a go using Wayback Machine which is an archive of all websites. It captures snapshots of a website every so often. So, you can go back and see how the website has been around and what it used to look like.

What’s it Made by?
That modem is screeching again and I can tell you if you look at and work on websites all day you’ll soon get a feel and be able to say that’s a WordPress website, well, the majority of websites are WP. People use the same templates you see. Wix is more often in usage these days. There’s a good reason. SquareSpace, website builders like that awful IONOS and GoDaddy are going to tell you that this person knows NOTHING about websites.
O’, there’s a tool that will tell you all about it. Let me know if you’d like to know the best one.
How is the Website Converting?
This is my main concern. I have an audit of over 200 elements that goes to improving conversion… …another story.
