Technology ebbs and flows. Sometimes we wave it goodbye (remember Google Wave) and sometimes we take it on because we see the clear benefit?

Is AI useful?

Damn right, it is!

The medical advancements, the time saving for admin and coders are of value and a great deal more. The incredible video AI produces is stunning and I love it!

Do I use it?

Yes.

I’ve saved time. I speed up copy writing (and the copy checking). I gain research insight almost instantly. I expect I will find more and more uses.

Should I Respect AI?

No. I loathe so much about the ‘buzz’ around AI and what it could represent. I dislike the unthinking nods of people who mutter “AI is brilliant for this.” “AI teaches us that.” There’s a reason people spout this line…

Things I Dislike About AI

I’m not going to bother with all of the reasons AI creators need to address. I’m not even going into the theft of Intellectual Property. I’m not even going to mention the banality of the copy. The drivel, like a smart Spaniel spewing words just learnt from the Reader’s Digest.

It’s All in the Prompt Jim

No, it isn’t. How can you write a prompt that makes a large database predict what you want with original and emotional observations? Perhaps AI will be able to do this in the future but for now you’re taking the piss if you think it can write.

AI can give you a starting point and a structure and I have used it for that purpose. Why am I so down on AI?

I like thinking. I like others who think. I adore reading other people’s insights around our world. Like all tools AI makes you think in a particular way and that’s not only lazy it is dangerous.

The randomness, the experience, the emotions we all contain far outweigh an AI generated piece.
So, you can f**k off with your ‘It’s all in the prompt.’ It isn’t. AI is a dull puppy.

Content is King

Is a cliché that has been relevant since the dawn of Google. I’d say content is also the Queen, the Ace and the Jack of content.

Start thinking like you can and don’t rely on false dawns. Visitors to your website will engage, do what you want (well, a certain percentage) when you treat them like a human being and not as a number.

Google just wants high quality content and you can get there using AI + your experience and your ability to be human. Look up Google’s E-E-A-T framework if you need a starting point and put some work into your content, your words, your imagery…

AI uses words and thoughts of others, so you won’t be original and because AI is not human it will tell you stuff that is untrue (and in some cases dangerous).

Conclusion

AI is a tool and not the answer. You are the one that will make the difference with your independent and original thought. Did you read the E-E-A-T framework yet? That first ‘E’ is for Experience. Use your experience not the cocked-up regurgitation of a bit of software.
